Road to Sustainability: Photos of Truth

Indonesia promotes sustainability: they plant kilometers of trees, promote biodiversity and condemn all forms of crime against nature. This is how they demonstrate it.

With this and other images that we have recovered thanks to our investigative team, we once again destroy the arguments of the companies that abandon the palm oil supply chain, explaining that it threatens forests and biodiversity. We have already shown that sustainable palm oil is the most sustainable vegetable fat in circulation. Those who do not use palm oil are the real threat to the environment. Worse are those who leave palm oil for commercial purposes.

YET … a few months ago, Trapa, a Spanish chocolate company, spent tens of thousands of euros in a smear campaign consisting of communication and PR. They bought very expensive pages of newspapers and websites to show the photo of a piece of Indonesian forest indicating the exact geographical coordinates. Trapa wants to show that the forest will be cut down to make way for oil palm plantations.

Maybe they don’t know that:

  1.  In Indonesia a moratorium is in force for which trees can no longer be cut to plant oil palms;
  2. In Indonesia, the previous concessions remain active. The area photographed by the NGO funded by Trapa is a concession for which the owner has the right to plant oil palms. As our photos show;
  3. there are areas that are repaid by philanthropists and responsible companies;
  4. poor areas, lacking forests and lacking in biodiversity, are enriched by the presence of sustainable palm oil plantations.

Does that mean that everything is okay in Indonesia? No. There are fraudulent producers that the law pursues. There are irresponsible companies that we pursue.

For this reason, we have asked the Indonesian Government to do more to punish those who do not respect the law. For this reason, we appreciated the Norwegian Government’s commitment to sustainable palm oil. The Norwegian Government supports the sustainable palm oil supply chain.

Trapa has squandered thousands of euros to publish a stupid photo. We have shown that once again, those who boycott palm oil are in bad faith and spread lies. Trapa could have invested its resources better, promoting a more sustainable supply chain.

This applies to all the other companies that spend millions of euros on advertising to promote products without palm oil. They could invest more responsibly in favor of sustainable cultivation and supply chains.

These companies, like Barilla, give up sustainability and worse, threaten the environment.
