After Indonesia, Turkey and the USA, also Malaysia bans free from palm oil products, threatening a commercial retaliation against exporting countries.

This ad hoc law prohibits the sale of all products that use this controversial commercial claim “free from palm oil“. Kuala Lumpur’s government threatens Europe: if this claim does not disappear, new tariffs will be applied to goods from the EU.

This law is Malaysia’s answer to the selfishness and commercial cunning of companies that use the claim “free from palm oil“, threatening consumers’ freedom.

European exports to South East Asia are now at risk. European SMEs risk to pay a very high price due to the “legally” illegal practice of the “free from palm oilclaim. The impact of tariffs could be devastating for our economy at a time of low growth with a recession right at the door.

We have already denounced this threat to consumers. Our study anticipated the deception that consumers suffer from the “free from palm oil” claim: the illusion of buying a healthier and more sustainable product.

Now, with a newly formed EU Commission, we repeat ourselves: the “free from palm oil” claim could leave our European economies in deep troubles.
